THEORY & POLITICS TERMS OF USE

1. Acceptance of These Terms

These Terms of Use (”Terms”) govern access to and use of the Substack publication Theory & Politics (the “Publication”), operated by Cameron Vaziri and/or Room 2100, LLC, a Pennsylvania limited liability company (collectively, “Publisher,” “we,” “our,” or “us”).

By accessing, reading, subscribing to, purchasing, commenting on, sharing, or otherwise interacting with the Publication, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use or access the Publication.

2. Relationship to Substack Terms and Policies

The Publication is hosted, distributed, and technically operated through the Substack platform. Your use of Substack itself, including account creation, authentication, subscriptions, payments, billing, app functionality, platform moderation, platform analytics, security infrastructure, and other platform-level services, is governed by Substack’s own terms, policies, and agreements.

Substack’s governing documents may include, without limitation, its Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, Publisher Agreement, Content Guidelines, Copyright Dispute Policy, payment terms, and any other rules or procedures Substack publishes from time to time.

These Terms supplement Substack’s terms and apply specifically to the Publisher’s content, intellectual property, community expectations, disclaimers, and relationship with readers of Theory & Politics. In the event of a conflict concerning Substack-operated services, Substack’s applicable terms and policies control to the extent required.

3. Nature of the Publication

Theory & Politics publishes philosophical, political, geopolitical, academic, educational, analytical, and commentary-oriented material. Content may address current events, international political issues, political theory, postmodern and poststructuralist thought, and related subjects.

All views expressed in the Publication are solely those of Cameron Vaziri unless otherwise stated. They do not represent the views of any employer, university, academic institution, department, organization, affiliate, client, government entity, or other third party.

4. No Professional Advice

The Publication is provided for informational, educational, scholarly, and expressive purposes only. Nothing in the Publication constitutes legal, financial, medical, mental health, investment, tax, professional, governmental, diplomatic, policy, or institutional advice. You are solely responsible for any decisions you make based on your reading of the Publication.

5. Eligibility

You represent that you are legally able to use Substack and the Publication under the laws applicable to you. If you access the Publication on behalf of an entity, you represent that you are authorized to bind that entity to these Terms.

6. Ownership of Content and Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise stated, all content published through Theory & Politics is owned by Cameron Vaziri and/or Room 2100, LLC and is protected by United States and international intellectual property laws. Protected content includes, without limitation:

· Essays, articles, posts, notes, papers, drafts, lectures, and commentary;

· Subscriber-only and paywalled content;

· Audio, video, images, graphics, designs, titles, branding, logos, and visual identity elements;

· Original arguments, analysis, research, frameworks, organization, compilations, and presentation; and

· Downloadable files, attachments, and related materials.

7. No Reproduction, Republication, or Derivative Use Without Written Consent

Except where expressly permitted by applicable law, you may not reproduce, republish, redistribute, upload, mirror, archive, sell, license, translate, adapt, publicly display, publicly perform, modify, scrape, commercialize, summarize for commercial reuse, or create derivative works from Publication content without prior express written consent from Cameron Vaziri or Room 2100, LLC.

This restriction applies to both free and paid content and to content accessed through email, the Substack website, the Substack app, RSS, comments, notes, downloads, or any other distribution channel.

Limited quotation for lawful academic citation, commentary, criticism, scholarship, teaching, news reporting, or other legally protected fair use or fair dealing may be permitted where applicable, provided that the use is properly attributed, limited in scope, non-misleading, and does not substitute for the original work.

8. Reservation of Rights for AI, Text and Data Mining, and Automated Collection

The Publisher expressly reserves all rights in the Publication and its content for purposes of text and data mining, artificial intelligence, machine learning, automated analysis, embeddings, vector databases, retrieval-augmented generation systems, training datasets, fine-tuning datasets, synthetic datasets, and related technologies.

Unless you have prior express written consent from the Publisher, you may not:

· Scrape, crawl, harvest, bulk download, or systematically collect Publication content;

· Use Publication content to train, fine-tune, evaluate, benchmark, or improve any artificial intelligence or machine-learning system;

· Generate or distribute derivative works substantially based on Publication content;

· Circumvent paywalls, access controls, subscriber-only restrictions, or technical protection measures;

· Use Publication content in a database, corpus, index, or commercial content repository; or

· Assist any third party in doing any of the foregoing.

9. Subscriber Accounts, Payments, Refunds, and Billing

Subscriptions, paid memberships, payment processing, billing, tax handling, account authentication, app access, and refund tooling may be managed by Substack and/or its payment processors. The Publisher does not directly receive or control full payment card details.

Any refund, billing, cancellation, app access, or payment issue may be subject to Substack’s applicable policies and the policies of relevant payment processors. To the extent we have discretion over a publisher-level refund or subscription issue, we reserve the right to exercise that discretion consistent with applicable law and Substack’s platform rules.

10. Comments, Community Features, and User Submissions

If you submit comments, replies, emails, messages, feedback, suggestions, notes, or other communications to or through the Publication (”User Submissions”), you represent that you have the right to submit them and that they do not violate law, these Terms, Substack’s policies, or third-party rights.

You grant the Publisher a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, display, reproduce, archive, moderate, quote, respond to, and otherwise process User Submissions as reasonably necessary to operate the Publication, maintain records, respond to you, protect legal rights, and enforce these Terms.

Do not submit confidential, proprietary, legally privileged, sensitive, or personal information that you do not want reviewed, stored, moderated, or potentially disclosed as legally required.

11. Reader Conduct

You agree not to use the Publication to:

· Violate any law, regulation, court order, or third-party right;

· Harass, threaten, intimidate, defame, abuse, impersonate, or target others;

· Submit unlawful, infringing, deceptive, spammy, malicious, or abusive content;

· Publish or threaten to publish private information in violation of law or platform policy;

· Attempt unauthorized access to accounts, systems, subscriber content, or payment features;

· Interfere with the security, functionality, or availability of the Publication or Substack;

· Circumvent subscription, paywall, or access restrictions; or

· Use the Publication in a way that exposes the Publisher to legal, security, reputational, or operational risk.

The Publisher reserves the right to moderate, remove, restrict, block, unsubscribe, or report users or content at the Publisher’s discretion, subject to applicable law and Substack’s platform rules.

12. Third-Party Links, Sources, and Embedded Content

The Publication may link to, quote, embed, discuss, or reference third-party websites, platforms, articles, videos, social media posts, academic sources, news sources, or other materials. These third-party services are not controlled by the Publisher. The Publisher is not responsible for their accuracy, availability, security, policies, legality, or practices.

13. Accuracy, Changes, and Availability

The Publication may discuss rapidly changing political, legal, historical, geopolitical, academic, and social issues. While the Publisher may strive for careful analysis, the Publisher does not guarantee that content is complete, current, error-free, or suitable for any particular purpose. Content may be revised, corrected, archived, restricted, or removed at any time without notice.

14. Disclaimers

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE PUBLICATION AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, SECURITY, AVAILABILITY, OR RELIABILITY.

15. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CAMERON VAZIRI, ROOM 2100, LLC, AND THEIR RESPECTIVE OWNERS, MEMBERS, MANAGERS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, REPRESENTATIVES, AFFILIATES, SUCCESSORS, AND ASSIGNS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, PUNITIVE, OR ENHANCED DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE PUBLICATION, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE PUBLICATION SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF: (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID DIRECTLY TO THE PUBLISHER FOR ACCESS TO THE PUBLICATION IN THE THREE MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO LIABILITY; OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100).

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability. In those jurisdictions, the limitations apply to the maximum extent permitted by law.

16. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Cameron Vaziri, Room 2100, LLC, and their respective representatives from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses, including reasonable attorneys’ fees, arising out of or related to your use of the Publication, your User Submissions, your violation of these Terms, your violation of Substack’s policies, your infringement of third-party rights, or your unlawful conduct.

17. Governing Law and Venue

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and applicable United States federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Subject to any non-waivable rights you may have under applicable law, disputes arising from or relating to these Terms or the Publication shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Pennsylvania, and you consent to personal jurisdiction and venue in those courts.

18. International Users

The Publication is operated from the United States and is accessible internationally. You are responsible for complying with laws applicable in your jurisdiction. Nothing in these Terms limits rights that cannot be waived under applicable consumer, privacy, or data protection law.

19. Termination and Access Restrictions

The Publisher may restrict, suspend, block, unsubscribe, or terminate access to the Publication, comments, community features, or subscriber-only materials where appropriate to protect the Publication, enforce these Terms, comply with law, protect intellectual property, prevent abuse, or comply with Substack’s platform policies.

20. Changes to These Terms

The Publisher may update these Terms from time to time. Updated Terms are effective when posted or otherwise made available. Continued access to or use of the Publication after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms, except where additional notice or consent is required by law.
